Grafyxx is a Macintosh utility which displays information contained within graphic file formats such as TIFF, EPS, PICT, Scitex CT, PhotoCD, and more. Why is this important? It may not matter to whoever created a graphic file, but by the time it winds up at a service bureau or print shop, somebody needs to be able find out just what's behind that pretty picture. Is the file RGB or CMYK? Is the resolution adequate? Does it have any clipping paths? Is it raster or vector? What colors are embedded? Is it compressed, and how? Are transfer functions or screens embedded in an EPS?
Most importantly, Is it what's needed RIGHT NOW?
Finding this information can take many hours in Photoshop, and even then it's difficult to adequately discover all the “hidden” attributes, like screen functions and encoding. Grafyxx does it all in a heartbeat, combining unparalleled information-gathering with sophisticated production tools that automates “preflighting” of image files.
Grafyxx works best when either it or an alias is placed on the desktop. To create an alias, select the icon "Grafyxx 1.2" and click File -> Make Alias. The icon "Grafyxx 1.2 alias" will appear in italic type. Drag the alias to your desktop, and you are ready to begin.
There are several ways of starting Grafyxx. The first method is suited for when you want Grafyxx open, but do not currently have any graphic files to load. Simply double-click the icon (or alias) "Grafyxx". Within a few seconds Grafyxx will appear on your screen. The other method of launching the program is to highlight and drag graphics files onto the Grafyxx icon. Once Grafyxx is open, you may add graphic files in two ways: click the menu File -> Open, or click "Add" near the bottom of the Grafyxx screen. This will bring up a dialog box with two fields and several buttons. Find the graphic files you wish to add and click "Add to List". Or if you wish to include all graphic files in the selected folder, click "Add All". The files you have added are now in the bottom field, and will be processed by Grafyxx as soon as you click "Done". Should you wish to remove one or more files, highlight the file(s) and click "Remove" or "Remove All", then "Done".
Grafyxx processes each file as it is added, so if you have added many files it may take a few seconds to process them all. When the cursor turns from a watch to a blue arrow, you're ready to prowl through the jungle of graphic files on your Mac.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Grafyxx comes complete with many keyboard shortcuts, making repetitive tasks that much simpler.
